instructions

round 1

(using color 1) single crochet around the hair elastic. when the elastic is covered, push stitches back and create more single crochet stitches - the more you can fit on, the rufflier your scrunchie will be!

slip stitch to finish row.

round 2

(color 1) chain 2 and 2 double crochet into the first stitch.

you will now begin switching colors for each stitch. always crochet around the strand you’re not currently using, so no floats show on the outside of the crochet.

repeat across the row:

+ (color 2) 2 double crochet into next stitch

+ (color 1) 3 double crochet into next stitch

make sure to end with a color b stitch, so the round is seamless (skip a stitch near the end if needed to make this happen).

slip stitch to finish row. cut off color 1.

round 3

(color 2) chain 2 and 2 double crochet into the first stitch. 3 double crochet into the next 2 stitches.

repeat across the row:

+ (color 1) 3 double crochet into 2 stitches

+ (color 2) 3 double crochet into 3 stitches

this should result in a wonky checkerboard pattern where you stitch color 1 into color 2 stitches and vice versa.

slip stitch to finish row. cut yarn, tie off & weave in ends.
