starting from the second stitch from the hook, repeat (single crochet, chain 1 and skip 1 stitch) across row. change to color 2 on the last move of the last single crochet in the row. chain 3 and turn.

row 1

repeat across the row:

+ double crochet 3 together in next chain space: repeat (yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, then yarn over and pull through all remaining loops on your hook

+ chain 1

to finish the row, work 1 double crochet into the last single crochet. switch to color 1 in the last move of this double crochet. chain 1 and turn.

row 2

single crochet into the double crochet stitch that ended the last row.

repeat across the row:

+ chain 1 and skip over cluster

+ single crochet into space between clusters

to finish the row, work 1 single crochet into the top of the last chain. switch to color 2 in the last move of this single crochet.

repeat rows 1 & 2 once more each, but do not change colors at the end of row 2.

with color 1 still on your hook, turn your work to the unfinished edge. make 5 single crochet stitches along the edge. fasten off.

reattach color 1 to the other unfinished edge of the piece.

make 5 single crochet stitches along the edge. fasten off.

creating the bow

lay your piece into the shape of a bow by folding two bow flaps and crossing their tails in the middle.

create a strip of crochet to hold the bow’s shape: chain 4, then chain 1 and turn. repeat (4 single crochet, chain 1 and turn) for 16-20 rows, or until the strip is long enough to wrap around the center of the bow.

use a tapestry needle to stitch the two ends of the strip together around the bow. attach a hair pin to the back side.
