the only thing you should be stringing along more than beads are men... but this fun little bag is a start! grab something shimmery and create the perfect purse to carry your phone, wallet, & lip gloss for your next girls’ night out!

materials

6.5mm hook

1.5-2.5mm hook (or any size that fits through the hole of your beads)

1 skein 85g/159m yarn (originally created with red heart “scrubby sparkle”)

approximately 200 beads

gauge

10 sts by 12 rows = 4x4 inches

use a 6.5mm hook & single crochet stitch

technique

you will create two beaded squares, then seam them together and add straps. throughout the pattern, you will be switching between hooks to attach beads. to insert a bead, put your small hook into the bead, pull working yarn through the hole, yarn over, and pull through the loop to secure bead. switch back to 6.5mm needle for stitches between beads.

22ch

row 1:

starting at 2nd st from hook, sc all sts (20 sts total), 1ch and turn

row 2:

1sc in first sc, rep (ch1, insert bead, skip over 1 st, sc into next sc) through second to last st. 1sc in last sc. ch1 and turn. (you should have inserted 9 beads across the row)

row 3:

1sc into first sc. rep (ch1, skip over bead, and 1sc into next sc) until second to last st. 1sc in last sc. ch1 and turn.

row 4:

rep (ch1, insert bead, skip over one st and sc in next st) across row. at end, ch1 and turn. you should have inserted 10 beads across the row.

row 5:

rep (ch1, skip over bead, 1sc into next sc) across row. at end, ch1 and turn.

rep rows 2-5 3 more times (your bag will have 17 rows total).

row 18:

dc across row (20 sts total) bind off

repeat all steps to create another beaded piece. you should have two pieces to form either side of the bag.

seaming

place the two beaded pieces wrong sides together, with dc edges at the top. sc seam along the left, bottom, and right edges to attach the two pieces together. leave the dc end open to attach straps.

straps

starting one st in from the right of the bag, attach yarn and sc into next 4 sts. ch1 and turn. continue rows of sc sts until strap is 8.5 inches long or your desired length. attach to left side of bag and repeat on the back piece of the bag to create a 2nd strap.
