material grrrlz reject “no-frills” philosophies and are instead on a mission to add frills to every piece possible! *salute* this time around, we’ve got a basic headband, tied with a bow at the back of the head, and forming a crown of frills up top<3

materials

worsted weight yarn (2 colors)

3.5mm crochet hook

gauge

20 stitches by 20 rows=4x4 in/10x10 cm

using single crochet stitch and a 3.5mm crochet hook

technique

begin by creating a basic band, then finish with increase rows to make the edge frill up.

then crochet chains from either end to tie the hairband around your head.

instructions

hairband

(using color 1) chain 100, chain 1 and turn

row 1: single crochet through the back loop only

row 2: (using color 2) slip stitch through the front loop only

row 3: (using color 1) single crochet through the front loop only

ruffle

row 1: (using color 2) repeat (single crochet, 2 single crochet in next stitch)

row 2: 2 single crochet in each stitch

tie off and weave in ends

ties

pull up yarn on one edge of the hairband through the color 2 row. chain for approximately 18 inches / 45 cm. repeat to create a tie on the other side of the hairband.

weave in ends.

blocking

wet the body of hairband and pin it down straight to dry. arrange the ruffles so they are even across the hairband. let dry.
