6mm hook
2 skeins size 4 yarn
gauge
13 sts by 13 rows = 4x4 inches
use a single crochet stitch and 6mm hook
construction
throughout the pattern, hold yarn double. this bonnet is crocheted from the top down. you will begin by creating a rectangle for the top of the head, then crochet around 3 sides of the rectangle to build the body of the bonnet. the last step is to add trim to each side and two chains to use as ribbons.

top
hold yarn double for the entire pattern
ch 12
ch1 and turn
sc blo for 16 rows
cut working yarn and fasten off
turn your piece so your chain tail is in the bottom left hand corner and the tail you just fastened off is in the top right hand corner
body
insert hook into the bottom right corner of the rectangle
16 sc along the right side of the rectangle (one sc in each row)
12 sc blo across top side of rectangle (one in each stitch)
16 sc along the left side of the rectangle (one in each row)
you should have 44 sts on three sides of the rectangle
ch1 and turn
sc blo in each st for 22 rows (optional: add more rows here to make the bonnet longer)
cut working yarn and fasten off
face border
insert hook into the bottom left corner of the bonnet
23 sc along the left side of the face (one sc in each row)
12 sc along the top of the face (one sc in each ch)
23 sc along right side of the face (one sc in each row)
you should have 58 sts around the entire border of the face
sc blo in each st for 3 rows
cut working yarn and fasten off
ribbons
start a new chain of yarn
ch for 18-20 inches (or to desired ribbon length)
connect to one of the bottom edges of the bonnet
slip stitch into each st across the entire bottom edge
ch until second ribbon matches the length of the first
optional: turn work and slip stitch or sc another row to make ribbons thicker
cut working yarn and fasten off
weave in all ends
