cowgirl boot stocking
add some girly western flair to your holiday season with this unique take on a classic decor piece! it’s a great beginner quilting project and the perfect opportunity to mix some fun patterns and use up your fabric scraps.
materials
you will need approximately 3 yards of fabric (1 yard split between different patterns, 2 yards of lining), 1 yard of batting, and this cowgirl boot template printed out.

DOWNLOAD COWGIRL BOOT TEMPLATE HERE
side 1
1. cut out 15 4x4 inch (10x10 cm) squares
2. arrange squares in a 3x15 grid and sew all pieces together using 1/4 inch (<3/4 cm) seam allowance
3. iron flat
4. cut one piece of 11x18 inch (28x46 cm) fabric
5. insert batting between patchwork piece (good side facing out) and lining piece
6. pin in place and quilt using your preferred method (pictured method: sew straight lines along each seam (1/4” out) and halfway through each square)
7. place the cowgirl boot template across the quilted piece at an angle, pin in place and cut
side 2
repeat steps 1-6 to create side 2
7. flip the boot template over (so you create a piece that faces the opposite way from side 1). place across the quilted piece at an angle, pin in place and cut
assembly
1. pin the two quilted boots together (good sides together) and sew around the entire boot, except the curve at the top
2. cut two boot pieces out of your lining fabric
3. place lining pieces good sides together and sew around the entire boot, except the curve at the top
4. turn quilted boot right side out and place it completely inside the lining (good sides should be together on the inside, seams of lining visible on the outside). make sure seams are lined up.
5. cut two 18-inch (46 cm) ribbons. place them on top of each other and insert between the two seams on the right (above the heel) side of the boot. the edges of the ribbon should match up with the edges of the boot, with the ribbon hanging down in between the quilted boot and lining. pin in place.
6. pin around the rest of the top of the boot. sew around the top, leaving a 3 inch hole. pull the stocking right side out through the hole.
7. fold the raw edges in and top stitch around the entire top of the boot to close.
